Process For Assessing New Cell Towers

On September 14 Council agenda there is a report requesting endorsement of a proposed response to the federal department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. It is a response to proposed amendments to the federal consultation process for telecommunication tower siting.  Having participated in several applications for new towers throughout my time on council I am very confident in the quality of the feedback being provided in the response.

It’s very ironic that the theme of many of our responses is about community engagement and consultation for applications for towers. It’s ironic as the Township only learned about the proposed amendments from a public interest group in late August i.e. they did not get notification and request for participation in the discussion of the proposed amendments from the Federal government. It speaks very well of our staff that they are proposing to submit their responses by September 22nd which is the deadline.

To read all the appendices of the report go to the Council agenda and scroll down to 8.4.

The Gvt provides a process for evaluating applications to install towers.
