Route 61 was launched Monday! On the second bus, the one timed to deliver passengers at King City GO Train station to take the 7:51 train, there were 6 happy passengers. For a brand new public transit service this is great!
I know they were happy as I was on the bus along with Mayor Pellegrini to greet & welcome the users to the new service.
We heard different stories.
- “Now, my Mother doesn’t need to drive me to the station and she can sleep in.”
- “Now I can leave my car at home and I don’t have to be worrying whether I will find parking.”
From YRT officials I learned a few more things. Route 61 is a “flag down” bus service. i.e. you don’t have to be at the designated bus stop to either embark or disembark.
You can flag down a bus anywhere on the route with two requirements:
- You must be wearing the right clothes so that you are visible.
- You must pick a location which is safe for stopping.
If you have any feedback on the routes and timing please contact York Region Transit at Transitinfo@york.ca

While I am delighted with the new service and the new signage at the station, some drivers continue to park on the boulevard in full view of being informed their vehicle could be towed. Towing would be far more effective than ticketing at this point. Also, further along Station Road drivers are parking. There is no signage between the intersection of Station and Burns Blvd. and the next official sign to say they can’t. Another sign needs to be erected. For the wellbeing of residents and commuters, safety on this particular street is paramount. Large dump trucks associated with the sub-division construction, transportation of a large fleet of school buses from the yard on King-Vaughan Rd. to the service site at Keele and Station Road and normal residential traffic makes for a very congested roadway at the best of times .
Hello Sheila, Thanks for your feedback on this. Debbie
