Street Names

On September 29  there is a report on Council agenda recommending names in for the two streets in the new subdivision which has been referred to as Mansions of King.   I like very much the process we  follow for naming new streets. There is the administrative/technical side such as ensuring lack of duplication and then there is selecting names which “fit” King and the specific location.

Selected names are as follows for the street indicated on the map.

  • Royal Humber Trail” is the proposed name for assignment for Street ‘A’, the primary access road. This name pays tribute to the area’s colonial heritage while also reflecting its natural geography, specifically the Humber River, which winds gracefully through the surrounding landscape.
  • The name “Henry Borden” is proposed for assignment for Street ‘B’. Henry Borden, an early settler, purchased land in the Kinghorn (King City) area in 1935 and gradually expanded his estate within the King Road and Jane Street area. One of his farms “Tannery Hill”, is assigned to a municipal street in the Jane King Industrial Holdings development south of the Mansions of King residential development.

As always deputations can be made. To do so please register at clerks@king.ca by noon on  Sept. 29 or If you prefer you can e-mail your comments to clerks@king.ca and they will be distributed to Council members and appropriate staff.
