Surviving The Ice Storm

Before commenting on the ice storm I want to wish you all a very happy, safe and successful New Year.

Christmas 2013 will certainly be remembered: the ice storm really tested everyone’s resilience. I know that in many cases people were very challenged to keep themselves and family adequately warm. In addition, the lengthy period of the power outage and cold weather risked property. I also know that the best of the human spirit was demonstrated as people helped others.

We will not be able to forget the storm quickly as there is much clean up from fallen trees and limbs to be done. Township will be providing yard waste collection services week of January 27th. Further details will be provided at king.ca and in local papers once details have been finalized.

I am very proud of the work and effort of your Township Staff throughout this crisis:  Fire & Emergency Services responded to calls,Road crews worked steadily to keep our roads passable, Parks Recreation & Culture staff kept facilities open to provide warming locations. Finally, I am pleased to know that Township Staff intends to conduct post storm debriefing:  what was learned, how we could be better prepared.
