On Council January 12 agenda there is a staff report presenting the final Parks, Trails and Facilities Master Plans for the Township of King. Consistent with other Master Plans these reflect population growth, new policies and extend the planning horizon from 2031 to 2051. The Master Plans identify investment priority areas and guide improvements related to the capital plan. It also identifies operational requirements to attain service level standards. Each of them is detailed including review of current state vs previous master plan (i.e. what has been accomplished), review of options for assessing capacity needs (population and/or participation), specific recommendations. The see each Master plan go to Council agenda and scroll down to 12.1.
I do have several questions about the master plans but in addition I wonder why the recommendations in the staff report seem to focus on capital as opposed to operational needs; I say this it is very obvious to me that resources to deliver objectives will be growing. In the recently completed CY 2026 budget there were several projects identified for more staff or replacement of part time/contract with full time but they were not proposed for funding given direction from Council to deliver a “no frills” budget. As we execute the Master Plans we need to be paying attention to what it takes to deliver the programs on a daily basis.
As always deputations can be made. To do so please register at clerks@king.ca by noon on January 10 or If you prefer you can e-mail your comments to clerks@king.ca and they will be distributed to Council members and appropriate staff.
