Village Design Guidelines: final draft

Dec 8, 2023 | Policies, Masterplans | 0 comments

On December 11th council agenda staff is presenting the final draft of the Village Urban Design Guidelines for Council approval; intent is to replace the guidelines dating from 2006. The guidelines provide design criteria for three key areas: village centres, established neighbourhoods and employment areas. As reviewed in the report accompanying the guidelines there has been substantial public engagement during this exercise.  Initially the guidelines included exterior design but this has now been removed due to planning act changes (Bill 23) but authority to influence and control other elements continues to be part of the municipality’s scope in site plan control.  The latter includes massing and conceptual design, the relationship of buildings to the street, accessibility to name a few. I think there has been meaningful modifications since the last draft which are listed on page 5/128 in the report.

As always you can participate in the Council and make a deputation on this motion  in person or virtually.  For details on how to do please see Council agenda.  Or you can send an email to clerks@king.ca by Monday noon with your comments, questions.  And I welcome hearing from you directly or by making a comment on the blog.
