Animal Control: new by-law with new provisions

Jun 12, 2016 | Debbie in the Community, The Issues | 0 comments

June 12 Council agenda includes a draft by-law and draft report on Animal Control.  Staff have reviewed the numerous by-laws in place, each covering different aspects of the topic and have determined that updating and consolidating is of value.  And, in addition, new provisions are included.  The latter includes introducing measures to proactively address cats and the potential for them being a nuisance just as there are measures for dogs; opportunity to proactively respond to aggressive dog behavior whereas currently little can be done until a dog bites; prohibition of feeding wild life.

I am very pleased to see the new measures being introduced; and I think the updates and consolidation of current by-laws is appropriate.  I am interested to hear from you whether you think the details are right.  Here is the report; and here is the draft by-law.

Let me know what you think about this.

The plan is to bring a final draft by-law to Council August 29 for adoption subject to comments from public and from Council.
