Come To Council 12/6: interesting presentations

At council on  Tuesday, December 6 Council meeting there are 2 important projects of great relevance to King residents.  1st…there will be big “reveal” and Council discussion on project MOVE (our new municipal offices.)  2nd…there will be discussion about a multi-use facility in King City including the expanded King City Library and the King City Seniors Centre.  For each, there will be both presentations and a Staff report.

For MOVE there will be a presentation by the Prime Consultant,+VG Architects of the detailed building and site plan; in addition there is a staff report with recommendations for next steps and approving the overall total budget of $21.5 million.  From reading the report it is evident that there is a focus on being financially prudent in terms of the capital cost but there is also an eye to doing it right for the long term. I will be proud to see our Town Hall operating as a LEED silver building.

I will be seeking more information as to the decision to not incorporate solar on the roof.  I am disappointed as it is one infrastructure choice which is so visible and hence it indicates that we are “walking the talk.”  Clearly the decision to install geothermal is very much “walking the talk” too but only the informed will be aware of it.

And, there is Staff report recommending that Council endorse the creation of multi-use facility including the expanded King City Library and the King City Seniors Centre.  This is a very exciting initiative which I believe will deliver significant benefits to the community.  As noted in the report the King City Seniors Board voted in favour of this plan; and now focus is on firming up the design.  At Council there will be a presentation also.  The overall total budget is estimated at $9 million and will be considered as part of the budget process.

And to confirm…this meeting is Tuesday, 12/6.  (There is so much happening in King these days that an additional Council meeting was added.  There will be the usual Monday Council meeting on December 12.)
