Debbie Schaefer Wants To Be Re-elected!

Sep 18, 2014 | Debbie in the Community, The Issues | 0 comments

October 27th, municipal election day, is less than 6 weeks away and I will be out & about knocking on doors in next couple days.  It is an excellent opportunity to meet residents and business owners in Ward 5; I hope that I will be fortunate enough to meet many of you when I am doing this. To ensure that we do meet, I would welcome you contacting me to set up a specific time which fits your schedule.

There are a couple ways you could help me campaign to be elected to represent Ward 5 for a second term. I would be delighted if you would erect a sign on your property indicating your support. I would welcome any opportunities to meet and talk with several residents or business owners together. Finally, financial contributions to my campaign are appreciated. Details on how to contact me are provided here or see the contact page at top of website.

My goals for the second term are really very simple: to continue the progress the Council has made and to continue ensuring that Ward 5 issues and concerns are effectively addressed. With my 1st term experience I look forward to being more effective.

I see the big issues for next terms as follows:

  • Complete the updates of our Official Plans including the King City Community Plan; and update the comprehensive zoning by-law
  • Support the revitalization of our village cores by implementing the Community Improvement Plan
  • Continue improving our financial health (build reserves, reduce debt)
  • Finalize the development plan for King City Corporate Centre (King Road/Jane Street) so that it meets our objectives of quality and good employment opportunities.
  • Provide visionary input to Province’s review of Greenbelt and Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plans so that i) these critical conservation plans continue for the benefit of Ontarians and ii) amendments are made to facilitate achieving the goals in our Sustainability Plan
  • Demand respect for our Official Plans in response to development applications and yet seize opportunities to better influence outcomes by facilitating dialogue amongst stakeholders
  • Respond to the concerns about traffic in both our villages & hamlets and in our more rural areas

I would very much welcome hearing from you as to whether you think these are the big issues and/or whether you think there are other ones. And I am interested in your perspective about these issues.

I want to continue being the representative for Ward 5 in King Township. I hope you will vote for me.

If you are not familiar with my work on Council in the current term you can read here a summary. And, of course, by looking over this blog you will learn a lot.

Please vote. There are many advance voting days; see here for details on location and time. To verify where you vote on October 27, see here. To confirm that you are on the voters list or to register see here.
