Emergency Road Repairs and Reconstruction

Emergency repair and reconstruction of several roads including Scott Crescent, Winter Road and Collard Drive in King City is being recommended; you can read the report to Council here.  As the report reviews the roads are in a state that such action is required.  I do not fully understand the financing measure for the  proposed $800,000 and will be asking for clarity at 6/23 Council.

I have to admit that I was a tad surprised by the report.  Previously  I talked about the identified need for emergency road repairs on several streets in King including Collard Drive because of the impact of the severe winter.  At May 12 Council meeting Council approved making the repairs but asked Staff to come up with a different funding method rather than the recommended one of deferring other projects.  Staff has come back with a different funding proposal but in addition they have come back with a much larger program; as they started doing the original emergency repairs they realized that road conditions were far worse than initially assessed and that it was simply unacceptable to “fill the pothole” as the road around it was falling apart.  And as they reviewed in the report they had the opportunity to check other roads.  Assuming that there is a good plan for financing it I am glad that we are not wasting money by filling potholes in a road falling apart.
