On October 14 Council agenda there is a staff report recommending that the Laskay Successionist Presbyterian Cemetery should be declared abandoned and ownership transferred to the municipality. The report is fascinating: interesting to know how a pioneer cemetery is regulated and what is required to change it’s status. And the photos provide an excellent summary of the rehabilitation conducted over the last couple years under the leadership of the Township. Obviously the cemetery should not have fallen into the state of this repair; the fact that it did demonstrates that we cannot truly respect our cultural historical assets without paying attention. I hope that we are going to start paying appropriate attention to our other pioneer cemeteries. To see all appendices including the photos go to Council agenda and scroll to 8.3.
As always deputations can be made. To do so please register at clerks@king.ca by noon on Oct. 14 or If you prefer you can e-mail your comments to clerks@king.ca and they will be distributed to Council members and appropriate staff.
Well put! It is a wonder it fell out off the radar for so long. Glad someone cared enough.
