Wednesday, April 20 at 6:30 pm there will be free informational webinar on the LDD moth (or spongy moth, previously known as European gypsy moth) hosted by several authorities. The webinar will provide an overview of the LDD moth life cycle, how to identify them, infestation forecasts for 2022, and management options that property owners can consider. Conservation authority experts will be in attendance to answer questions from participants.  Registration for the webinar has opened  with the registration link available on Toronto and Region Conservation Authority’s (TRCA’s) LDD moth webpage

LDD/Spongy Moth are currently in the egg mass stage. Residents are encouraged to check their trees for egg masses and remove them. From now until the end of April/ early May residents can manually remove the egg masses by scrapping them into a bucket of soapy water. Leave the egg masses in the bucket for 2 days before disposing. Manual egg mass removal will help reduce the number of hatched caterpillars in the spring.  Here is more information.
