We Need the Greenbelt!

Dec 1, 2022 | Developments, Policies, Masterplans | 2 comments

Contrary to numerous promises the Province is proposing to carve out  7,400 acres from the Greenbelt (GB) across 10 municipalities, including >600 acres in King on west side of Bathurst north of DAvid Drive.  The latter is to contribute to the goal of buidling 1.5 million homes in the next 10 years. As purpose of the GB per the GB legislation is to “provide permanent protection to the agricultural land base and the ecological and hydrological features, areas and functions within the Greater Golden Horseshoe and beyond”  it is bizarre that it would be done to build  <1% of the stated goal!    The GB is our future, the future of all living here  today and tomorrow.  Because we have protected this land from development we can grow food and thousands have drinking water.

What you can do?  Write your MPP and say that all the GB must be protected and preserved. If you are in King it is Minister Lecce.

By December 4th register a comment on the Environmental Registry.

There are numerous petitions being circulated; here is the one by  Environmetnal Defence.

And go to the rally on Sunday, December 4 in King City.

Debbie, thank you for highlighting the great value of Ontario’s Greenbelt and the high importance of protecting this marvellous area filled with agricultural land and rich natural heritage systems. I understand that Ontario’s Greenbelt is noted internationally as an excellent initiative in planning and may be the largest “Greenbelt” in the world.
Thank you also for promoting the December 4th rally at 1:00 p.m. in King City.
