Marylake: LTC Update

Aug 18, 2023 | Developments, Policies, Masterplans | 5 comments

On  August 17 the building permit for a 160 bed longterm care facility at Marylake has been given.  This follows the approval of the site plan application by the Director of Growth Management Services.  I have expressed many times since February 2021 concerns about the project, specifically its compliance with the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan.  The final frustration is that approval authority for such a significant project is municipal staff as opposed to the Council, the elected representatives.   Approval authority for all site plans was removed from Councils in Bill 109 (More homes For Everyone Act, 2022).  The demolition permit has been given also.  For your information here is the landscape plan. The development includes new parking areas, an improved and enlarged driveway access, a loading space, garbage storage facilities, landscaping, self-sustaining vegetation enhancements and stormwater management. The LTC will be supported by new servicing connections to the municipal water and municipal sanitary systems.

This application has been very challenging.  I very much appreciate the research and the comments made by residents, both King ones and others, either on this blog or other channels including participating in  council meetings.

This is quite disappointing Debbie. Quite draconian. Unfortunately this is the planning environment we are now facing. And unnecessary. –

Oh how awful. Very disappointing. This should not be built on thenOak Ridges Moraine. The fox (Ford) is in charge of the henhouse. He has deliberately changed all the rules meant to protect the environment.

More than disappointing. Years of community consultation wasted and yes, the fox is in the henhouse. Who knows how many other done deals are in the works? Why have a municipal council, councillors, a
mayor or citizens at large? Thank you Debbie for the countless number of hours you dedicated to this file but there is no doubt in my mind, the conspiracy was hatched long before it ever became official.

I agree wholeheartedly with Sheila’s comment. Unfortunately it would entail stooping to the level of the liars and deceivers to combat this gross injustice on the Moraine.
