COVID-19: King specific info

Remember to check in regularly with King’s COVID-19 information hub.  There you will see direct links to ShopKing and a new information section:  Resources for Seniors.   In order to protect some of our most vulnerable citizens, King has created an online information resource for seniors. It includes information on how to get essentials like groceries and prescriptions while keeping a physical distance from others, financial assistance, and entertainment options.

Tips for Staying Safe

We are all learning about new approaches for living safely; and happily, the new ideas keep coming.  To shop for essentials (food and medicines) while maintaining safe physical distance and giving support to our local businesses there is ShopKing. To experience the pleasure of talking with a group of friends or family members who are not part of the household, I know that many people, including myself, are trying out a variety of web platforms such as Zoom or house party; and there are churches who are conducting services with these platforms.  One of our local pharmacies (King City Guardian)  is hosting a webinar on Zoom on Wednesday, April 8 at 2pm on the topic of “How to support your immune system during the pandemic.” To register email [email protected] or phone 905 833 5304.  Here is their ad for this webinar.

About Closures

As previously announced all playground equipment  in King is shutdown.  We can continue to walk through our parks, along the trails, along sidewalks and along roads BUT we must each make commitment to ourselves and to our community that while doing that physical distancing will be made.

Effective Saturday, April 4, 2020, the York Regional Forest is closed until further notice; information has been shared publically, and signs have been posted at main forest tract public access points

The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) announced COVID-19 related closures including:  all TRCA parks and educational facilities. All parking lots at TRCA facilities. The closure of all TRCA campgrounds until further notice

COVID-19 King Update

The announcement by all levels of government in response to COVID-19 can be overwhelming in themselves as we try to keep up to date and to understand them.  Keep up to date by checking King’s COVID-19 page regularly.  To recap some of the most significant for King:  April 1 King announced that the closure of facilities and cancellation of recreational programs until futher notice. As people are spending more time at home the limit for curbside garbage containers has been increased from 2 to 3; schedule has not been changed.  Yard waste collection has begun as scheduled and with no limit with one change:  rigid open top containers i.e. blue box can be used. Last week there were important announcements re: waiving of penalties for late payments of next round of property taxes and water bills. King’s COVID-19 Impacted Services page provides full details.
